Motorcycle Waterproof Jacket
Selecting Your First Motorcycle Waterproof Jacket
When you get your first motorcycle, you usually think that all you need is a helmet and you are ready to go. Nothing could be further from the truth! You will soon find yourself buying all sorts of gear to make your ride more comfortable, and there is nothing more uncomfortable than going for a ride when it starts to rain. You have to be prepared for changes in climate, especially if you are going for a long ride and a motorcycle waterproof jacket should be one of your first purchases.
You may see a lot of bikers riding around in black leather jackets, which are in their own way waterproof, but they don’t provide all of the added features that a modern motorcycle waterproof jacket provides.
You should be looking for a jacket that is not only waterproof, but one that is breathable so that you won’t get too hot underneath. Especially if you are riding on a hot, muggy day, you will want the jacket to deflect the rain but also allow you to not get excruciatingly hot underneath.
Many riders like a jacket that is a little loose-fitting to enable them to wear multiple layers. Especially on long rides when you might encounter several different climate changes, it is essential to be able to pull over, take off a layer (or add a layer), depending on the weather, and the speed that you are travelling.
Unlike waterproof jackets for other purposes, a motorcycle waterproof jacket should also have a fair amount of padding, especially down the back, across the shoulders and the elbows. In addition, reflective patches should be seen on the back, shoulders, along the length of the arms, and even around the wrists to ensure that you are always seen by other drivers on the road.
